Egan’s diaspora, permutation city, and zendegi (and teranesia tbh) are some of the most amazing hard scifi books I’ve read so far. Check out their descriptions and I’m sure you’ll find something that intrigues you whatever your interests or background is. They are a bit hard to ingest at first and some concepts will require some wikipedia trawling but I think it’s worth the effort and you come out of the book with a better understanding of our world.
